Possibly the most important part of the entire restoration process, the varnishing or oiling is designed to protect the wood and ensure that it is hard wearing, practical and aesthetically pleasing.
During the original sanding process, the wood becomes incredibly porous and this is why the sealing and varnishing stage is so vital. The varnish, or lacquer, functions by filling in the pores of the wood and every coat adds another layer of wear resistance and strength while enhancing the beauty of the wood.
Our lacquers are available in varying levels of sheen, including Matt, Gloss and Satin and all of them provide a strong and durable finish that will keep you proud of your wood flooring for many years to come.
We also use Bonakemi waterborne acrylate dispersion which gives a well bodied surface with amazing resistance to heavy wear. This lacquer would be ideal for rooms with a high level of foot traffic so would be very suitable for offices, pubs, restaurants and porches. These sealants are also available in matt, silk-matt and gloss finishes.
Usually our varnishing or oiling process will take around 4 to 6 hours, meaning that you have full use of the floor again that same day. Again, this is vital for commercial properties like pubs and restaurants that do not want to lose out on trade while waiting for the floor to be restored.
Once the varnishing or oiling stage is complete you will be able to stand back and admire your fantastic new wood floor and be safe in the knowledge that not only has it increased your home’s value but also improved the feel and warmth in the room.
